Seeking: Mechanic

The Public Works Department seeks a skilled mechanic to be responsible for the maintenance of this departments vehicles and equipment.
The individual is required to be detail oriented with problem solving abilities to inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair various light and heavy-duty equipment. Candidate must also have the ability to service various systems such as: mechanical controls, current electronic controls, hydraulic and air brake systems, steering, suspension, drivetrain, transmissions, gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems and pneumatic systems.

The individual must be in good physical condition and have the ability to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, twist and stoop for long periods of time and lift up to 100 pounds. The candidate must be able to work outside in all weather extremes. Individual must be available for 24 hour call out and emergency duties.

Ten years of progressively responsible experience in fleet maintenance, required. Also required, is possession and maintenance of A.S.E. Technician Certification of the medium/heavy trucks category or the ability to obtain certification or equivalent within 1 year of employment. Person must be self-motivated and able to perform work unsupervised.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. The individual must have good communication skills, able to maintain records and order supplies and perform semi-skilled and un-skilled field labor activities related to Public Works when assigned. The individual must maintain a well-groomed, professional appearance appropriate for the position.

Individual should have a good driving record and is required to have a CDL class “B” license with air brakes endorsement within 90 days. They must live within 15 miles of the City or willing to relocate within 6 months of hire to meet this requirement. A pre-employment physical exam with drug screening is required.

This position is a full-time union position at 40 hours a week, with medical insurance, paid sick, vacation and holiday time, pension benefits and more.

Public Works

Seeking: Utility Operator/Laborer

The Public Works Department seeks a skilled maintenance worker to assist in field operations for the town’s water, sanitary sewer and street departments.

The individual will be required to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks including but not limited: street lighting, pump station maintenance, plowing snow, water main repairs, sewer repairs, asphalt patching, concrete placement, and landscape repairs. The individual must have mechanical aptitude for the tools and equipment used at Public Works including experience operating light and heavy-duty motor vehicle equipment.

The individual must be in good physical condition and have the ability to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, twist and stoop for long periods of time and lift up to 100 pounds. The candidate must work outside in all weather extremes. Individual must be available for 24 hour call out and emergency duties.

Five years of progressively responsible experience in the Public Works environment preferred. Other desirable qualifications include but are not limited to: electrical experience, water plant operators license, heavy equipment operations or other certifications in the field of Public Works. This position requires a critical thinker that can work safely to complete tasks. Person must be self-motivated and able to perform work unsupervised.
