August 22, 2013 City Council Meeting Minutes
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Mike Howley on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at 7:33 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Mayor Mike Howley led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Alderman Stachnik was absent. There being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order.
OPEN TO PUBLIC
Alderman Ferrero moved to open the meeting to the public. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Fonte, Ferrero, McAvoy, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
Mrs. Jerry Hooten
8605 W. 91st Street
Mrs. Hooten was present to voice her concern regarding raccoons in her area. The Chief noted he would send the animal warden to her home to discuss this matter.
Mrs. Cara Keller
9131 W. 91st Place
Mrs. Keller informed the Council that it was brought to her attention that there are men in the Forest Preserve at 95th Street and some of the residents do not feel comfortable about going into the Forest Preserve. Mayor Howley noted he will notify the Forest Preserve District.

Alderman Ferrero moved to close the meeting to the public. Alderman McAvoy second. Roll call: Aldermen Fonte, Ferrero, McAvoy, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS
Alderman Szeszycki moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of August 8, 2013 as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman McHugh second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McAvoy, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight aye. Alderman Zimmerman pass. So approved.
REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS
MAYOR
Mayor Howley introduced the “Art of Quilting Club of Hickory Hills”. They will be displaying quilts in city hall the months of September, October and November.
Mayor Howley announced Stagg High School will be holding their 50th Anniversary Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 6th. The parade will begin at Conrady Jr. High on Roberts Road.
Mayor Howley noted the 3:00 a.m. Liquor License Ordinance will be at the next Council Meeting.
Mayor Howley reported he will be meeting with the new website designer along with the Clerk on Friday, August 23rd at 4:00 p.m.
Mayor Howley stated the City will be looking into decorative street signs installed now that 88th Avenue is complete.
CITY CLERK
Clerk Catizone reported she is in receipt of three Block Party requests. 1) 81st Avenue from 92nd Place to 93rd Street on September 14, 2013. 2) 92nd Place from 90th Avenue to Kean Avenue to be held on September 14th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. 3) 8322 W. 95th Street between 83rd Avenue and 83rd Court to be held on Sunday, August 25th from noon until 12:00 a.m. No objections were noted.
Clerk Catizone is in receipt of a request from St. Patricia School who is seeking permission to post signs for their upcoming Octoberfest on Saturday, September 28th. These signs will go up on September 9th and be removed no later than Monday, September 30th.
Clerk Catizone reported she attended the Business After Hours at Archer Bank last evening. This was hosted by the Hills Chamber and was a very well attended event.
Clerk Catizone noted the next Hickory Hills Blood Drive will be on Sunday, August 25th at the Community Center.

Mr. Lang presented Invoice #184829 from Insituform Technologies, USA for work done on the sanitary sewer rehabilitation (pay estimate #1, partial) in the amount of $134,812.80. Alderman McHugh moved to approve Invoice #184829 in the amount of $134,812.80 to Instiuform. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll Call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McAvoy, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Alderman Szeszycki moved to approve the bills payable for the second half of August, 2013 in the amount of $271,019.25. Alderman McHugh second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McAvoy, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Chief Vodicka reported he will be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers at the Blood Drive this Sunday.
Chief Vodicka noted he has distributed a memo regarding vehicle purchases for the Police Department.

Alderman Fonte reported he is in receipt of a check from Waste Management in the amount of $610.53 for July recycling.
Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory
Alderman Ferrero reported the Community Affairs Committee is working on the Children’s Halloween Party.
Alderman Ferrero noted she will be meeting with the Youth Board on Thursday, September 12th.
McAvoy/Chamber Business Development
Alderman McAvoy reported the he also attended Chamber’s after hour’s event.
Alderman McAvoy also distributed information on the Chamber’s Golf Outing on September 25th.

NEW BUSINESS
Alderman McAvoy requested a donation to the Arlene Spiros Scholarship Fund in the amount of $100.00. He explained she was a volunteer in the City and a longtime resident. She gave so much of her time to the community. After some discussion, Alderman McAvoy moved to approve a $250.00 donation to the Arlene Spiros Scholarship Fund from the discretionary fund. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll Call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McAvoy, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
ADJOURNMENT
Alderman Ferrero moved to adjourn the meeting until the next scheduled or specially called meeting. Alderman Waight second. Roll Call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McAvoy, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
