July 10, 2014 City Council Meeting Minutes
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Mike Howley on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 7:32 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Mayor Howley led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Upon roll call, the following were present:

Alderman McHugh was absent. There being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order.
Moment of Silence – Mayor Howley expressed his condolences to the family of Steve Gianakas. Mr. Gianakas was the owner of the Hickory Hills Country Club and other properties in Hickory Hills. A moment of silence was observed.
Police Recognitions
Chief Vodicka presented Officer Scott Sodaro with his 20 year service recognition. He noted Officer Sodaro has had the greatest impact while assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division.
Chief Vodicka presented Officer Mark Benaitis his Sergeant Badge.
Chief Vodicka stated his personnel file contains an extensive number of commendations and letters of recognition. The Board of Police and Fire Commissioner Henry Kman administered the Oath of Office.
Chief Vodicka presented Sergeant Jason Bray with his Lieutenant Badge. He noted Sergeant Bray is a graduate of the esteemed Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. Board of Police and Fire Chairman Ken Fonte administered the Oath of Office.
At this time, Police Chaplain Father Joe Mol, gave the blessing.
OPEN TO PUBLIC
Alderman Zimmerman moved to open the meeting to the public. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McAvoy, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
Mr. Harold Edwards
Liberty Life Insurance
Mr. Edwards was present to offer the City employees an option of choosing Liberty Life Insurance for their supplemental insurance needs. Treasurer Schramm and Alderman Szeszycki will meet with him to discuss this option.
CLOSE TO PUBLIC
Alderman Szeszycki moved to close the meeting to the public. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McAvoy, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS
Alderman Stachnik moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of June 26, 2014 as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. Alderman McAvoy pass. So approved.
REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS
MAYOR
Mayor Howley again extended his condolences to the family of Steve Gianakas.
Mayor Howley reminded the Council the Summer Concerts in the Park have begun. He asked if they would remind their residents that the concerts are on Tuesdays at Kasey Meadow Park.
Mayor Howley thanked Alderman Ferrero and Alderman McAvoy for their hard work at the Street Fair. He also thanked all the volunteers.
CITY CLERK
Clerk Catizone reported online voter registration is now available in Illinois. An individual may apply to register online by accessing the home page of the State Board of Elections at www.elections.il.gov.
Clerk Catizone thanked everyone for the great Street Fair and she noted $813.00 was raised for the discretionary fund.
Clerk Catizone stated the City has received a plaque from the Illinois Public Risk Fund in recognition of the City’s efforts to promote safety throughout the City Departments. She congratulated Monika Wojturska and the Department Heads for their commitment to promoting safety.

Mr. Lang presented Invoice #20632 from AC Pavement Striping Company for work done on the 2014 Micro surfacing project in the amount of $79,178.22. Alderman Szeszycki moved to approve payment to AC Pavement Striping Company (MFT 14-00000-02-GM, pay estimate #1, partial) in the amount of $79,178.22. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McAvoy, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory
Alderman Ferrero thanked all the volunteers at the
Street Fair and especially the Police Department, Public Works Department and the Community Affairs Committee. The Council congratulated Alderman Ferrero on all her efforts at the Street Fair.
McAvoy/Chamber Business Development
Alderman McAvoy thanked his 92 volunteers who helped
with the Bingo Tent at the Street Fair. Also, he thanked the Public Works Department. He noted this year went very smoothly with the assistance of the Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220. He noted they were veteran bingo workers. Alderman McAvoy stated the Chamber of Commerce, St. Patricia Athletic Assoc. and the VFW will each receive approximately $800.00.

Mayor Howley noted Sam from Fairplay was transferred to their store in Worth. He wished him well.
