CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Mike Howley on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at 7:36 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Mike Howley led the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL

Upon roll call, the following were present:

Alderman McAvoy was absent. There being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order.

OPEN TO PUBLIC

Mayor Howley stated as there is no one in the audience, there is no need to open or close the meeting to the public.

JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS

Alderman McHugh moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of February 11, 2016 as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman Stachnik second. Roll call: Aldermen Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. Alderman Ferrero pass. So approved.

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

MAYOR

Laceys Place – Mayor Howley presented the Class E liquor license for Laceys Place located at 7831 W. 95th Street. Alderman McHugh moved to approve this Class E liquor license. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll Call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Aaron’s – Mayor Howley reported Aaron’s will be holding an Appreciation Day on March 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They are asking the City to sponsor this exciting event. This Appreciation Day is for the entire City as part of their Community Outreach Program. The donations they receive will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charity. Alderman McHugh moved to approve $100.00 from the Discretionary Fund. Alderman Waight second. Roll Call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

CITY CLERK

City Clerk Catizone reported the Clerk’s office is very busy this time of year with the Business licenses and Street Fair applications all going out.

City Clerk Catizone reminded the Council the newsletter deadline is March 15th.

CITY TREASURER

Treasurer Schramm presented the Treasurer’s Report dated January 31, 2016 for approval. Alderman Szeszycki moved to approve the January 31, 2016 Treasurer’s Report. Alderman Stachnik second. Roll Call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

CITY ATTORNEY

No report.

CITY ENGINEER

No report.

COMMUNICATIONS

BILLS PAYABLE

Alderman Szeszycki moved to approve the bills payable for the second half of February 2016 in the amount of $226,739.97. Alderman Stachnik second.

Roll Call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

STANDING COMMITTEES

Szeszycki/Finance

Alderman Szeszycki reported the first meeting with MAP will be on March 8th to discuss the Police Department Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Stachnik/Public Safety

Alderman Stachnik reported the Police Annual Report was distributed by Chief Vodicka this evening. Chief Vodicka noted the report is now on a zip drive.

Zimmerman/Public Works

Pickup Truck – Director Boettcher reported Public Works will be purchasing a new Ford pick-up truck from Hawk Ford. This is a budgeted item.

McHugh/Bldg./Facilities

No report.

Waight/Laws & Ordinances

No report.

Fonte/Health & Environmental Control

No report.

Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory

Alderman Ferrero reported she has gone to several nurseries and is waiting their responses regarding Arbor Day.

McAvoy/Chamber Business Development

Alderman McAvoy was absent. No report.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

None.

NEW BUSINESS

Mayor Howley commented that ComEd was very responsive to the recent wind event. Building Commissioner Moirano stated a business had some roof damage during the storm and asked if repairs could be done on a Sunday. An exception will be made in this case.

Mayor Howley mentioned that he attended a Council Meeting in Countryside last night.

They had a Lyons Township student there who will be the St. Patrick’s Day Parade queen. She was nominated by her friend who is her partner in the buddy program. It was a very heartwarming story and several news stations were there to cover it.

Alderman Ferrero moved to adjourn until the next regular or specially called meeting. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
