CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Mike Howley on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 7:43 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Mike Howley led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Howley noted seeing no one in the audience there is no need for this portion of the meeting.

JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS

Alderman Stachnik moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of October 26, 2017 as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman Ferrero second.

Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Kman, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight aye. Aldermen Fonte and Zimmerman pass. So approved.

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

MAYOR

Veteran’s Day Ceremony – Mayor Howley reminded the Council the City will hold a Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Saturday, November 11th at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall.

Installation of Parking Lot 84th Court – Mayor Howley stated this item was removed from the agenda this evening and will be discussed briefly after the meeting.

Alderman McAvoy Celebration – Mayor Howley mentioned the celebration for Tom McAvoy was very nice and well attended. He also noted that Tom had emailed a very nice thank you to all. He thanked Clerk Catizone, Marilyn Gabrysiak and Sharon Marciano for a job well done.

5K Run – Mayor Howley reported we had a record year and a great turnout for our 5K Race. A more detailed report will follow as he is waiting on a few more invoices. Mayor Howley suggested Sharon Marciano receive a stipend for her efforts with the 5K Run/Walk as she did last year. No objections were noted and the stipend of $300.00 will be issued. No objections were noted.

CITY CLERK

City Clerk Catizone thanked the Public Works Department for their assistance with the McAvoy celebration which was held at the Community Center.

Clerk Catizone questioned if the date for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner can be picked earlier. Alderman McHugh will look into this matter.

COMMUNICATIONS

BILLS PAYABLE

Alderman Szeszycki moved to approve the bills payable for the first half of November 2017 in the amount of $394,161.10. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Customary Bills Payable – Alderman Szeszycki moved to approve the customary bills payable for the second half of November, 2017. Alderman Fonte second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Zimmerman/Public Works

At the last Council Meeting, Public Works Director Boettcher mentioned Alternative A Street Program for 2018. These two (2) half streets are located on 85th Avenue that need resurfacing after construction of a new sewer project. Public Works is requesting Council approve $35,000.00 of City funds to micro-surface with a single pass to coat and fill the pavement fractures. Alderman Ferrero moved to approve $35,000.00 from the General Fund to micro-surface the two half streets on 85th Avenue. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

McHugh/Bldg./Facilities

Alderman McHugh reported the Thanksgiving Dinner held at the Community Center on Tuesday, November 7th went very well.

He noted Jim Kruse (Kruse’s Krew) collected over $500.00 in
donations at this dinner. He thanked everyone for helping at
this event and noted over 282 dinners were served.

Alderman McHugh noted Parkview Apartments has four (4) vacancies at this time. He hopes they are filled very soon. There was some discussion on when an apartment is vacated and then remodeled, can a shower stall be installed instead of a tub. After some discussion, Alderman McHugh may make one apartment as a model with a shower only. Alderman McHugh stated at this time, the Parkview Apartment rents continue to be on the lower side.

City Marquee – Alderman McHugh reported at the Committee Meeting, the City marquee was discussed. He moved to accept the quote of $23,505.00 for a new message board on the City marquee. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Fonte/Health & Environmental Control

Alderman Fonte reported for the month of October, 2017 the “At Your Door Special Collection” has collected 4,130 pounds of recycling.

Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory

Alderman Ferrero reported the next City event will be the Tree Lighting on Tuesday, November 21st at 6:30 p.m.

Alderman Ferrero noted the Children’s Christmas Party will be held on December 9th from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. The Lights of Hickory Hills Contest will be judged on December 19th.
