CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Mike Howley on Thursday,
July 12, 2018, at 7:32 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Howley led the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL

Upon roll call, the following were present:

Alderman Stachnik and Building Commissioner John Moirano were absent. There being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order.

OPEN TO PUBLIC

Alderman Waight moved to open the meeting to the public. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Former Alderman Tom McAvoy
9130 W. 89th Street

Mr. McAvoy presented to the Council the new edition of the Hickory Hills Business Directory. He thanked Mr. David Shipyor for his invaluable assistance in helping him compile the information contained in this directory.

He noted a total of 326 businesses in 112 categories can be found in the directory. Supplies of the directories are being delivered to local businesses and will be on the City’s website. Mayor Howley thanked Tom and David for all their efforts on this project.
Mr. McAvoy at this time recognized retiring Public Works Director Larry Boettcher on his service to the City of Hickory Hills.

CLOSE TO PUBLIC

Alderman Waight moved to close the meeting to the public. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS

Alderman McHugh moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of June 28, 2018 as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman Kman second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

MAYOR

No report submitted.

CITY CLERK

Clerk Catizone reported the packing for the troops will be held on Tuesday, July 17th at the Community Center.

Clerk Catizone read a thank you note from retired employee, Chris Doherty.

CITY TREASURER

Treasurer Schramm presented a summary of the Street Fair and Arbor Day to the Council for review. There were no questions at this time.

CITY ATTORNEY

Ord. 18-10 – Attorney Cainkar presented Ordinance #18-10, an ordinance amending Section 30.01, of Chapter 30, Housing and Property Maintenance, of the Hickory Hills Municipal Code, by adopting the 2018 International Property Maintenance Code. Alderman Zimmerman moved to approve Ordinance #18-10. Alderman Waight second. Alderman Szeszycki inquired if there were any significant changes in this code. Attorney Cainkar stated no unusual changes. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

CITY ENGINEER

No report submitted.

COMMUNICATIONS

BILLS PAYABLE

Alderman Szeszycki moved to approve the bills payable for the first half of July, 2018 in the amount of $485,466.92. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

STANDING COMMITTEES

Szeszycki/Finance

Alderman Szeszycki reported in the past few days he has had several insurance meetings and will have firm numbers by the next Council Meeting.

Stachnik/Public Safety

Alderman Stachnik was absent. No report submitted.

Zimmerman/Public Works

No report submitted.

McHugh/Bldg./Facilities

Alderman McHugh thanked Public Works (Larry Boettcher and Sue Lehr) for their help at the Street Fair Beer Tent.

Waight/Laws & Ordinances

No report submitted.

Fonte/Health & Environmental Control

Alderman Fonte is in receipt of the June 2018 report from “At Your Door Service”. The total collected 4,200 pounds and 48 stops.

Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory

Alderman Ferrero thanked Mary Boettcher for all her help on the Community Affairs Committee over the years.

Kman/Chamber Business Development

No report submitted.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

None.

NEW BUSINESS

At this time, Mayor Howley recognized retiring Public Works Director Larry Boettcher. Mayor Howley presented a proclamation which he read to the Council. He thanked Larry for his service to the City and wished him well for many years to come. A reception will be held after the meeting.

ADJOURNMENT

Alderman Ferrero moved to adjourn the meeting until the next regularly scheduled or specially called meeting. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
