October 7, 2020 Update from the Mayor

Illinois health officials announced 1,617 new known cases of COVID-19 and 32 additional fatalities. The seven-day statewide positivity rate is currently 3.4%.  There are now 346 cumulative cases of COVID in Hickory Hills with 7 related deaths.  Please continue to wear a mask in public when social distancing may not always be possible and follow public health directives.

Mail Ballot Drop Box Locations

For the first time ever, the Cook County Clerk’s Office will offer secure mail ballot drop boxes at locations staffed by Clerk employees. These drop boxes will be emptied every day.  The two nearest drop box locations to Hickory Hills are at the Oak Lawn Village Hall located at 9447 S. Raymond Avenue and the Bridgeview Courthouse.   I am guessing that most will find the Village of Oak Lawn location most convenient.  Drop box hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 9 a.m.-5 p.m.  For more information on early voting please see link below.

Starbucks Signs Lease for Location in Hickory Hills

As work on the Ricky Rockets development (former Lexington House property on 95th Street, west of Denny’s) continues at a brisk pace, we are excited to report that Starbucks recently signed a lease to locate in the proposed retail center that will be part of the Ricky Rockets travel center.  As proposed, the Starbucks will have a double drive thru and the usual comfortable Starbucks interior design.  1st Ward Aldermen Mike McHugh and Brian Waight are thrilled to welcome this new development into their ward after many years of work.  I commend the entire City Council on their efforts and continued emphasis on attracting desirable economic development to our community.
