June 26, 2014 City Council Meeting Minutes
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Mike Howley on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 7:34 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Mayor Howley led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Alderman McAvoy was absent. There being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order.
OPEN TO PUBLIC
Alderman Stachnik moved to open the meeting to the public. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
Ms. Alina Mirzynski
9020 S. Roberts Road
Ms. Mirzynski was very vocal in expressing her concern with the parking lot of her building located at 9020 S. Roberts Road. She noted when there is a heavy rain her lot floods and causes damage. She also mentioned that Roberts Road is never cleaned of debris after an accident.
Ms. Mirzynski has called Cook County several times to clean this street. She feels she is getting no response from the City or the Public Works Department. Mayor Howley explained the City Engineer and the Public Works Director will investigate this matter and see if the reason for the problem is the construction of the building or something else.
Aaron’s Furniture
9600 S. Roberts Road
Representatives from Aaron’s Furniture were present to invite the Council to their grand opening on Saturday, June 28th at 11:30 a.m. Mayor Howley welcomed them to the City of Hickory Hills.
CLOSE TO PUBLIC
Alderman Ferrero moved to close the meeting to the public. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS
Alderman McHugh moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of June 12, 2014 as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman Ferrero second. Correction: Page 2, last paragraph, change the sentence regarding “lengthy discussion” which took place after the motion was made. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

BILLS PAYABLE
Alderman Szeszycki moved to approve the bills payable for the second half of June, 2014 in the amount of $279,273.25. Alderman McHugh second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Stachnik/Public Safety
Alderman Stachnik presented a memo from Chief Vodicka outlining the promotions. He is requesting approval to fill one Lieutenant vacancy and one Sergeant vacancy along with one entry level Police Officer vacancy created by the retirement of Lt. Thomas Dietz on June 20, 2014. Chief Vodicka noted this recommendation will result in some budgetary savings as well. After some discussion, Alderman McHugh moved to approve the recommendation as follows: Sgt. Jason Bray to Lieutenant, Officer Mark Benaitis to Sergeant and one new recruit. Alderman Stachnik second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
Alderman Stachnik noted he did not receive a call from the resident regarding her parking lot as she stated earlier this evening.

Alderman Fonte reported the City has received the last
recycling check from Waste Management in the amount of $694.11 for the month of May, 2014.
Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory
Alderman Ferrero reported there are 80 crafters and
20 food vendors for this year’s Street Fair.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Clerk Catizone reported she had met with Mike Morley of
Waste Management to review moving forward with notifying residents of the new weekly recycling to start September 1, 2014. A post card will be sent out from Waste Management to all residents in August.
Alderman McHugh stated all is ready for the Street Fair Beer Tent on Sunday. He also distributed parking passes to the Council.

Alderman Ferrero moved to adjourn the meeting until the next scheduled or specially called meeting. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Stachnik, Szeszycki, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
