April 3, 2020 Update from the Mayor

We hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.

First an interesting article to show the benefits of social distancing.

Today, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced 1,209 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois. Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 8,904 cases including 210 deaths in 64 counties in Illinois. Cases by county can be found on the state’s coronavirus website at coronavirus.illinois.gov.

Since we really did not get a chance to properly celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year amid this crisis, enjoy Conan O’Brien’s visit to the Chicago Irish American Heritage Center.

Finally, I hate to end on a sorrowful note, but the great Bill Withers passed away a few days ago at the age of 81 from heart complications unrelated to COVID.  The 3 time Grammy Award winner wrote and sang such hits “Lovely Day”, “Ain’t No Sunshine”, “Just the Two of Us” and of course “Lean on Me”.   “Lean on Me”  is so meaningful today because many health care workers and first responders have made inspirational videos to help get through this difficult period.  Enjoy this 1973 live version of Lean on Me….perfect anthem for all of us right now.

Happy Weekend and remember…. Stay Home. Saves Lives.
