CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Mike Howley on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 7:34 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Howley lead the pledge of allegiance.

Alderman Waight was absent. There being a quorum present the meeting was called to order.

Alderman Ferrero moved to open the meeting to the public. Alderman Stachnik second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

No one spoke during this portion of the meeting.

CLOSE TO THE PUBLIC

Alderman Stachnik moved to close the meeting to the public. Alderman Ferrero second.

Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS

Alderman Stachnik moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of April 8, 2021 as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman McHugh second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, McHugh, Kman, Purtill, Stachnik, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Res. 21-04 – Mayor Howley introduced Resolution 21-04, a resolution requesting permission to close a state highway for the purpose of the Hickory Baseball/Softball Association Parade on Saturday, May 8th. Alderman Kman second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

CITY TREASURER

Treasurer Vodicka presented the Treasurer’s Report dated March 31, 2021 for approval. Alderman McHugh moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report dated March 31, 2021. Alderman Kman second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

COMMUNICATIONS

BILLS PAYABLE

Alderman Kman moved to approve the bills payable for the second half of April 2021 in the amount of $501,471.33. Alderman McHugh second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Stachnik/Public Safety

Chief Hobart announced the upcoming retirement of Diane Foxx, Secretary in the Hickory Hills Police Department. She will be leaving in June.

Zimmerman/Public Works

McHugh/Bldg./Facilities

Alderman McHugh reported all is running smoothly at Parkview Apartments. Currently, there are 3 vacancies at Parkview.

Purtill/Laws & Ordinances

Alderman Purtill reported he is in receipt of two (2) business license applications. 1) Advance Medical Dispatch to be located at 7667 W. 95th Street. 2) Able Garage Door to be located at 8705 W. 95th Street. This will be a showroom only for this company. No objections were noted.

Fonte/Health & Environmental Control

Alderman Fonte reported for the month of March, 2021 the City (WM At Your Door) recycled 3,099 pounds of e-recycling with 32 stops.

Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory

Alderman Ferrero reported the Community Affairs Committee met and have chosen the winners of the Arbor Day Coloring Contest. Winners will be notified by the Committee.

Alderman Ferrero noted the Arbor Day Food Drive is Saturday, May 1st and plans are in place.

Waight/Chamber Business Development

Alderman Waight was absent. No report submitted.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS

Alderman McHugh suggested possibly holding a fall event in the City now that the Street Fair has been cancelled. Mayor Howley stated this can be discussed further.
