May 14, 2021 Update from the Mayor

Outdoor Hills Chamber and Community Expo to Be Held Saturday, May 15 (tomorrow) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Conrady Junior High Parking Lot

Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful spring day so get out of the house and enjoy this FREE, fun, local event that has plenty of festivities for kids and adults.  The Hills Chamber of Commerce Business & Community Expo will be held this Saturday, May 15, 9 am to 2 pm, at Conrady Jr. High School, 7950 W 97th Street, Hickory Hills. There are 76 exhibitors registered for this event with a mix of small local businesses, direct sales vendors and crafters. 

In addition, the Secretary of State Mobile Unit will be on site to assist with driver’s license renewal, state id’s, license plate stickers. NO Real ID Services will be offered. Congresswoman Marie Newman’s Mobile Unit will also be on hand to assist and answer questions.

For the kids, “Boomer” from the Windy City Thunderbolts will be visiting between 11-12:30 to take pictures and have some fun! We will also have equipment from both the North Palos and Roberts Park Fire Departments and the Hickory Hills and Palos Hills Police Departments.  Mega Sounds DJ will also be cranking tunes from the oldies to today! 

Several Community Resource tables will be answering questions and handing out literature. Don’t forget to stop at these tables while visiting: Oak Lawn Army Recruiting Station, Palos Township, City of Hickory Hills, City of Palos Hills. Notary services will be offered by the City of Hickory Hills.

Jim Kruse from Kruse Krews who has worked tirelessly over the past 17 years to send care packages to our troops, will be set up with a table and cards for everyone to sign and write a little note showing your appreciation. Make sure you stop and visit Jim’s table before you leave. 

Lastly, a huge raffle with donations from our exhibitors will be set up for you to take a chance at the prize you want the most! This has all been a huge attraction at the Expo to see all the unique and fun things that are being raffled. COVID-19 Vaccination Card Plastic Sleeve Holders will also be available for sale for $1 each. No limit on your purchase.

There will be ample space between the exhibitors to allow for social distancing. Handicapped parking and regular parking will also be available in the main lot where the exhibitors will be showcasing their goods.

COVID-19 Vaccines Available Locally for Children 12-15 Years Old

This week the CDC approved allowing 12-15 year old children to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.  For our family, this was amazing news as we approach summer because our 14 year old was the only family member not vaccinated.  Yesterday I scheduled a same day appointment online through the JewelOsco.com website and our daughter received the first vaccination shot at our local Jewel-Osco.  It simply could not have been more convenient and the thought of our entire family being vaccinated and returning to normal summertime activities is thrilling.  Below is a recent article from Yale Medicine regarding children receiving the vaccine:
