Ms. Lehr stated the City has acquired grant funds to create a street tree inventory. The grant also covered the development of an Urban Forestry Management Plan, The plan is a broad view of goals for the next ten years. The City currently manages 4,456 trees in parkways. One of our strengths is that we have 107 species represented in our tree population. However, the Maple genus makes up for 40% of the population. For diversity, pests and diseases we need to lower that number. The City will use this plan and the valuable information to address short-term concerns, long term management considerations and overall planning objectives. Ms. Lehr distributed a flash drive to the Council that is a copy of the Urban Forestry Management plan depicting long term benefits to our community, while reducing long term costs.
