Gun Incident at Local Carnival

The Hickory Hills Park District Carnival over this past weekend was a nice community event that many children and families enjoyed once the hot weather moved out of town. Given the incidents that occurred earlier in the summer at similar events in other towns, the park district and the city had a heightened police presence to better safeguard the event. It is important to share that despite these safety measures, there was an incident that occurred at the carnival on Sunday evening.

On August 27th at approximately 7:09PM, officers working at the Hickory Hills Park District carnival were alerted that a person was observed by the tennis courts at Kasey Meadow Park in possession of a handgun. The complainant provided a description of the offender and indicated that the offender had displayed the handgun in the presence of others and had racked the slide of the handgun. Officers approached the tennis courts and observed a subject matching the description of the offender. Upon seeing officers, the subject immediately began fleeing the park into the residential neighborhood south of the park. The subject, determined to be a 16 year old juvenile, was detained in the 8100 BLK of 93rd Street. Officers subsequently recovered a loaded handgun that the offender had discarded. The juvenile was subsequently charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Thankfully, there was no one injured. A big thank you to the men and women of the Hickory Hills Police Department for a job well done.
