July 23, 2024 Update from the Mayor
Hickory Hills Public Works Assists Community in Need
Storms brought a record breaking number of tornados to the surrounding area last week. The City was fortunate that the severe weather split right around us. Our city had numerous trees down and plenty of residential branches to pick up. However, the Village of Homewood was hit with an EFI 1 tornado, 100 mph winds with many streets blocked due to tree damage. Our fine Public Works Department responded to Homewood’s request for assistance by sending one dump truck with operator to assist in the tree and debris cleanup. Orland Park, Orland Hills and Midlothian also assisted. The mutual aid was much appreciated.
95th Street – Decorative Street Light Poles
The painted, metal street light poles down 95th Street are beginning to rust due to winter street salt. Just wanted to make residents aware that our public works team will be removing the light pole bases, sanding, priming and re-painting poles from the bottom to approximately 10 feet above ground. There are some minor rusts spots higher that will be addressed in the future. Due to cure/dry times of primer some poles will look discolored until a topcoat is applied. 95th Street has 82 decorative poles.
Friday Farmer’s Market
Have a great rest of the week!
