March 20, 2025 Update from the Mayor

Congratulations to New Hickory Hills Park District Director

Jennifer Fullerton, the long-time Hickory Hills Park District Executive Director, has retired after a distinguished career.  The city is very appreciative of her service to our community and leadership of the park district.

After an extensive search for a new director, the park board selected Renee Chavez to lead the Hickory Hills Park District.  Renee has many years of experience in leadership roles at various park districts.  Before accepting the job in Hickory Hills, Renee served as the Crete Park District Executive Director since Jan 2021.  Though the Hickory Hills Park District is its own separate governmental entity, on behalf of the City of Hickory Hills, I am pleased to welcome Renee Chavez to Hickory Hills and look forward to working with her.

Laundry Detergent with Eco Friendly Packaging

It is so frustrating to know that very little plastic waste ever gets recycled.  In fact, the overall recycling rate for all plastics is about 5% and plastic materials can take almost 500 years to decompose in landfills!

It is difficult at times to find products that have a positive impact on our environment, but we found one that works well and is ECO friendly.  The ECO Sheet laundry detergent pictured below does just that.  You simply place the ECO-sheet in the washing machine and it dissolves during the wash cycle.  Our family has found that this product cleans clothes as well as the liquid detergents, but without the large plastic bottle so there is NO plastic waste!   Jewel carries another brand of ECO sheets that I am sure works just as well as the one that we have used below.
