April 22, 2026 Update from the Mayor
Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22. This year the focus is on the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” which emphasizes community action, environmental literacy, and sustainability. Global efforts, led by EARTHDAY.ORG, focus on accelerating the transition to a green economy, fighting climate change through reforestation, and protecting natural ecosystems like wetlands.
The larger environmental problems that we all hear about can seem overwhelming at times. However, everyone can contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable planet in small, meaningful ways. For instance, pick up a piece of trash while on a walk, try laundry detergent sheets, minimize use of single use plastic straws and cutlery or volunteer at a cleanup event.
ComEd Contact Information In Cases of Power Outage
With the frequency of storms lately, I thought it would be good to share ComEd contact information when you experience loss of power. ComEd recommends the following: 1-800-EDISON1, go to ComEd.com, or use the ComEd Mobile App to report outages. ComEd closely monitors the potential for severe weather and says that it adjusts its staffing levels accordingly.
Strickland Brothers Oil Change 7850 W. 95th Street
I started going to Strickland Brothers for oil changes years ago and always have received good service. I mention this only because Strickland Brothers is Hickory Hills’ hometown oil change business. Strickland Brothers is located directly across from the Dunkin Donuts on 95th Street. Leo is the new manager at our hometown Strickland and he and his team welcome your business. You can access several coupons from the Strickland Brothers webpage.
Enjoy the spring weather!
Mayor Mike
