June 22, 2026 Update from the Mayor
Post Storm Debris Cleanup
As the Hickory Hills Public Works Department continues to work every day on debris cleanup, last week the city retained the services of several tree contractors to assist with the cleanup efforts. The tree service contractors worked over the weekend and will continue throughout the week as long as needed.
We also requested what is called mutual aid assistance to help with the storm cleanup from any willing municipalities. We are pleased and grateful that the Village of Homewood, the Village of Orland Hills and the Village of Bridgeview agreed to and are now assisting in the cleanup efforts.
As mentioned previously, storm debris is being temporarily dumped on the Sabre Room property. We thank the Sabre Room property owner for allowing the city to use its property for this purpose.
The clean-up will take a good deal of time as residents continue to drag more storm debris to the curb. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we try to recover as quickly as possible from the worst storm to hit our city in at least the last 50 years.
Just another reminder from Public Works below:
- Don’t place your pile in the street
- Don’t mix debris with the natural wood pile. Your pile will be passed by if there is treated lumber, metal, garbage or any foreign objects. That creates a dangerous situation for the workers chipping the pile if a foreign object gets stuck or thrown from this equipment.
- Cut into manageable pieces if possible, as best you can
- Stack in an orderly fashion, if possible
- Clean the drains, all the leaf litter flows right to them.
- Sweep in front of your house
Do Not Forget, Street Fair This Weekend!….More Details to Come
