Power Restoration Update

As of Sunday morning, ComEd has restored power to 80 percent of Hickory Hills customers. Our home is not back online yet, but I have been receiving ComEd automated text messages about the need to replace 3 poles in area that were knocked down due to fallen trees. Fortunately, for those of us without power, the next few days will be on the cooler side.

As you may have seen, there are mutual assistance crews from out of state that are assisting ComEd with the restoration efforts. These trucks look like the ComEd electric trucks, but have a different electrical provider name on the vehicle. The City continues its regular communication with ComEd representatives.

Hickory Hills Public Works continues to work to clear the streets of debris and maintain regular municipal operations. In fact, there is an entire crew working today clearing debris and yesterday a portion of the department had to fix a water break on top of all the storm related work.

Below is direction from Public Works regarding Debris Clean Up Procedures and Recommendations

The following could be mentioned to help with issues (I’m sure you will phrase it nicely):
1) Don’t place your pile in the street – you are just causing additional hazards
2) Don’t mix debris with the natural wood pile, we don’t have time to sort the pile. Your pile will be passed by if there is treated lumber, metal, garbage or any foreign objects. That creates a dangerous situation for the workers chipping the pile if a foreign object gets stuck or thrown from this equipment.
3) Cut into manageable pieces if possible, as best you can
4) Stack in an orderly fashion, if possible
5) Clean the drains, all the leaf litter flows right to them. We experienced a lot of flooded streets with the overnight rain.
6) Sweep in front of your house (4&5 are important, rains keep coming and if the streets flood we have to attend to that activity first and delays cleanup efforts.
Let’s work together to make the cleanup go as quickly and safely as possible😊

We thank the current owner of the Sabre Room property for allowing the city to temporarily dump the tree and limb debris on its property so the clearing can continue.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we keep making steps to recover from the two storms that many believe are the strongest to hit Hickory Hills in over 50 years.

City phone systems are now operational.
