June 15, 2026 Update from the Mayor
Power Restoration Update
As of Monday morning, ComEd reports that 88% of Hickory Hills customers now have power. Our home is among the 12%, but ComEd and its partner agencies are all over the city so I feel that the rest of us will be restored very soon. Friends of ours sent a text picture of the below that meteorologists confirmed that an EF-2 level tornado struck out Hickory Hills. According to the National Weather Service and EF2 tornado produces wind speeds ranging from 111 to 135 mph. An EF2 is considered a strong tornado capable of ripping off roofs, snapping large trees, and pushing over fully loaded trucks.

I know a common theme of these updates is how much we appreciate everyone’s patience. Even as all power is restored, the clean-up will take a good deal of time because I am sure that residents will be gradually dragging more storm debris to the curb. Again, my appreciation to the Hickory Hills Public Works Department for working throughout the weekend on the initial debris clean up (along with an unanticipated water break). Our police department and dispatchers also did an excellent job with the added patrol activities and volume of storm related calls.
Just another reminder from Public Works below:
1) Don’t place your pile in the street – you are just causing additional hazards
2) Don’t mix debris with the natural wood pile, we don’t have time to sort the pile. Your pile will be passed by if there is treated lumber, metal, garbage or any foreign objects. That creates a dangerous situation for the workers chipping the pile if a foreign object gets stuck or thrown from this equipment.
3) Cut into manageable pieces if possible, as best you can
4) Stack in an orderly fashion, if possible
5) Clean the drains, all the leaf litter flows right to them. We experienced a lot of flooded streets with the overnight rain.
6) Sweep in front of your house (4&5 are important, rains keep coming and if the streets flood we have to attend to that activity first and delays cleanup efforts.
Let’s work together to make the cleanup go as quickly and safely as possible😊
Mayor Mike
